Progetti europei TOP-IX

The FLUIDOS and DECICE projects have come to an end

The FLUIDOS project — a pioneering initiative under the Horizon Europe programme — and the DECICE project, funded by the European Union, have both come to an end.

Last September 30, the FLUIDOS project officially came to an end, marking the conclusion of a three-year journey aimed at redefining how the European digital infrastructure connects cloud, edge, and IoT. With a focus on simplicity and real-world impact, FLUIDOS delivered technology that makes distributed computing efficient, transparent, and sustainable.

Following its participation in the NexusForum2025 Summit, the final webinar held on November 12 was an opportunity to highlight the achievements of DECICE, a project centred on intelligent collaboration between devices, edge, and cloud. The event showcased the solutions developed and offered an in-depth analysis of three real-world use cases.

With the project now concluded, TOP-IX is beginning to define how its results will be leveraged in the future. This reflection concerns not only the consolidation of the knowledge gained during the project, but also the positioning of DECICE within a broader roadmap in which Internet Exchanges evolve into active players in the European federated digital ecosystem.

Looking ahead to the future of Internet Exchanges, TOP-IX envisions their evolution into Service Composition Points (SCPs), neutral brokers where services can be discovered, orchestrated, and consumed within federated cloud and edge environments. DECICE contributes to this long-term vision by providing valuable building blocks: AI-based orchestration mechanisms, validated use cases, and insights into how workloads can be dynamically placed and adapted across distributed infrastructures.
