ASIMOV

Aircraft Safe Inspection Module by Operating UAVs

ASIMOV, funded by the Piedmont Region as part of the 2024 SWIch call for proposals, aims to accelerate, make safer, and optimize aircraft deicing operations at airports, reducing the consumption of anti-icing fluids and the operational load on workers. The solution, protected by a EU patent, is based on the use of UAS-Unmanned Aerial System.

ASIMOV is based on a partnership, which includes WPWEB srl, NIMBUS, TOP-IX Consortium, SAGAT, Politecnico di Torino (Dipartimenti DIATI, DAUIN and PIC4SER Interdepartmental Centre).

Fulcrum Project

The Universal Cloud Federation
Period: 2024 - Ongoing
The Fulcrum project was launched with the goal of creating a Federated Cloud model that emphasizes complementarity and collaboration rather than competition among providers of different sizes.
The project is built on two main pillars: the InterCloud Exchange Foundation (ICX) and the Computing Exchange Market (CEM). The ICX serves as a consensus forum for defining and agreeing upon open-source frameworks for infrastructure federation. These frameworks are then supported and implemented within the Computing Exchange Market, a platform designed to enable the exchange and visibility of resources and services, adopting the solutions agreed and defined within the ICX.

Genoa's new Internet Exchange managed by a consortium including the Municipality of Genoa and industry leaders, aims to capitalize on the city's strategic location as a landing point for major submarine cables

EWOC

Enabling Virtualized Wireless and Optical Coexistence for 5G and Beyond
Period: September 2022 - September 2027
The EWOC project plans to develop a new converged optical wireless network solution, based on flexible and virtualised infrastructure, for the complete optimisation of resources for beyond 5G requirements. EWOC will target high-capacity, low-latency communications (40-90 GHz), providing the basis for a 50-fold improvement in spectral efficiency.

DECICE

Device Edge Cloud Intelligent Collaboration framEwork
Period: December 2022 - November 2025 (Project completed)
DECICE aims to develop an AI-based, open and portable cloud management framework for automatic and adaptive optimization and deployment of applications in a federated infrastructure, including computing from the very large (e.g., HPC systems) to the very small (e.g., IoT sensors connected on the edge).

QUID

Quantum Italy Deployment
Period: January 2023 - December 2025 (Project completed)
The QUID project aims to start the deployment of the Quantum Communication Infrastructure (QCI) in Italy. QUID is deploying systems and networks to test quantum distribution of cryptographic keys, with attention to integrating them with existing communications and will foster the uptake of these systems and networks from use cases.

Education for the future of schooling
Period: 2018 - 2024 (Project completed)
An initiative developed by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation and implemented by the Foundation for the School, aimed at transforming schools to enable them to tackle the challenges of a rapidly evolving society. Through collaboration with TOP-IX, the involved schools have been provided with a fiber-optic connection, ensuring fast and secure internet access.
